Tossing Pebbles in the Stream

This blog is my place to sit and toss pebbles into the stream. The stream of Life relentlessly passing before us. We can affect it little. For the most part I just watch it passing and follow the flow. Occasionally, I need to comment on its passing, tossing a pebble at it to enjoy the ripple affect upon Life's surface.

I don't think most Americans, or Canadians, know that Canada is the biggest supplier of Crude Oil to the US.

You would think Canada would get more respect and concessions from our American cousins. Unlike Mexico, foreigners can own our precious energy resources. Sadly so! They are largely owned my non-Canadians.

Perhaps, it is time for Canada to take back ownership of this resource for the sake of national security. I for one do not think any of it should be exported but should be available only to Canadian as needed instead of being faster and faster exploited for profit, (for the short term benefit of some, and the long term threat to us all.) just to support the American wasteful life style. I guess this makes me a rabid Nationalist as well as a commited Socialist.

I cannot understand how someone can be a "committed Socialist" when it has been shown time and time again that all Socialism manages to accomplish is - at best - equality of misery. At worst, democide.

Excepting, of course, for the "more equal" who run the system.

Socialism, like its more virulent cousin Communism is, as entymologist Edward O. Wilson so eloquently described it:

"Wonderful theory. Wrong species."

Have you read Hayek's The Road to Serfdom?

I guess it wouldn't surprise the Ayb Rand American individualist that I also support strict gun control. I would point to one successful Democratic Socialist country, Sweden. A longer response might include pointing out how badly the US politcal system is failing and not leading in any category among industrialized countries except in % of citizens incarcerated.

I don't know if you're talking barrels as in gushers, but we own stock in a Canadian energy company that extracts it from shale. A very expensive process--the machines are awesome. The Mexico figure is the important one. It is an extremely wealthy country with no reason to be sending its poor out of the country to send money home.
