Tossing Pebbles in the Stream

This blog is my place to sit and toss pebbles into the stream. The stream of Life relentlessly passing before us. We can affect it little. For the most part I just watch it passing and follow the flow. Occasionally, I need to comment on its passing, tossing a pebble at it to enjoy the ripple affect upon Life's surface.

A RUNT PHOTO ESSAY

Some blogging friends have been asking me about the Runt. Well, here are a few pictures so you can see how he has grown.

Each morning and evening he comes up on the verandah to feed himself out of the bag of feed I keep there. This morning I got going early and fed the pigs before the Runt came to the porch. I also used the last of the feed. When he did show up there was no special feed for him.

As you can see he was driven to drink. He acquired a taste for beer while my friend Denis (who likes a beer now and again. . .and again. . .and again),was here. Denis has gone back to the Wilderness job near Webequie, a remote First Nation Community well north of the last road # 599. Some beer remains and the Runt seems to have needed a little nip. I guess he heard,
"Beer is living proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." Benjamin Franklin

Getting up on his feet was difficult.

So he lay down.

The sun is warming everything up so a nap would be just the right thing.

Gage is contemptuous of this sleeping pig as he chews on a bone nearby. Could the bone be from a relative of the Runt????

Perish the thought.

Fantastic! So good to have an update. It certainly looks sunny! The snow seems a long time ago now.
Your runt looks very happy and Gage looks to be thankful of the bone!

I'm happy to see that Runt is doing well and enjoying his status as "pet". I think he's too young to be drinking, though. Looks like you are having some nice sunny weather there and Gage is taking advantage of it.

Nice to see both Runt.. and Gage.. both look so well.. isthat a leg bones Gage is gnawing on? Our butchers will keep one back for you if you ask, he's a jolly fellow who calls them Postmens Legs'..
You mention about the wildlife on our moors on my post today. On these moor sheep are grazed but that is it. England as no Wild Cats now but do remain in the highlands of Scotland. The odd deer will also be seen but it a rare sighting as the moor tops are bare of shelter or trees.
At one time I would have thought all you mentioned and more roamed these moors which in the past would have been great forests. Not that far away over the other side of the moors in Derbyshire is a village called Whitwell....

Whitwell is situated in an agricultural area on the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire boundary. Part of the famous Creswell Crags are within the Whitwell boundary. The caves were a home to early man, hunters who followed the great herds. There are rich remains of animals such as the mammoth, sabre-toothed tiger, and a prehistoric hyena much larger than the present species.
All the best to you my friend.

Too too cute. The Mountain Man had a Golden Retriever who developed a taste for beer while still a puppy. She lived to be 14, so it apparently didn't hurt her any. Glad to see the Runt so healthy!

Oh my--you have really given Runt a different approach to a pig's life! Drinking beer? Next thing, Runt will be smoking cigars!

Philip,

I have spent the last few minutes catching up on the posts I have missed. The runt sure has grown and Gage looks like he is content gnawing on his bone. They both seem very comfortable in their environment.

I enjoyed the information on the giant pumpkins. I have seen large pumpkins but never that large. Waterford is a town in southern Ontario that has Pumpkinfest every fall. All the houses are decorated for Halloween and there is a giant pumpkin pyramid in the center of town. They have hay rides and lots of other activities for kids of all ages.

I found your post on The Righteous Among Nations very interesting and informative. I am a history buff and so this is right up my alley.

Take care and drop by when you have time.

Blessings,
Mary
